Series of Stunning Saves From Opposition Keeper Restricts Menston To 4

Pool-In-Wharfedale Railway Station, which used to link Harrogate and Leeds, was closed in the Beeching cuts of 1965. As far as I am aware, Pool was not mentioned in the proposal for the HS2 rail line that would have connected Manchester and Leeds, before plans for that were abandoned in 2021. It would have taken a high speed train to have kept pace with Holliday-Gomes this morning as Menston Rangers consolidated their position at the head of the Harrogate League with a 4-2 victory away at Pool, a scoreline that highly flattered the home side.
On a lovely playing surface, it took a spectacular performance from the home team goalkeeper Holdsworth to prevent Menston from opening the deadlock until after the half hour mark, when a lovely move and cross from Fleming was finished off by Holliday-Gomes. The resilient Pool side levelled the scoring after a free kick was helped into the net, but just before half time Holliday-Gomes restored the one goal advantage with a great finish.
An excellent second half performance from Rangers, with notable displays from Casey and Jefferson at the back, and Taylor in the middle, was rewarded with goals by the newly prolific Miller and an own goal. At 4-1 Menston were in full control of the match, dominating every exchange against a tiring Pool, but the home side found a consolation goal with the last kick of the match.
The Rangers Rocket steams into Pannal Ash station* next Sunday with the firebox, boiler, steam dome, valves, cylinders and pistons all working perfectly in harmony.
